Accelerating climate change, resource challenges and biodiversity loss put pressure on us all to act. Duni Group has strived for many years to lead the development of environmentally smart disposable products. Products that provide maximum functionality and long-term solutions for recycling, composting, or reuse. The updated 2030 strategy, Our Decade of Action, steps up our sustainability efforts even more. The ambition is to give back more than we take. We want to enable regenerative business models that let both current and future generations prosper socially and economically without adverse environmental impact.

Our sustainability ambition

Our sustainability initiatives
The backbone of our updated strategy is three new sustainability initiatives. These distinct focus areas are based on thorough analysis and guide everyone working within the Duni Group.
Based on our updated business strategy, sustainability and circular models should be integrated into all operations. All key functions are responsible for contributing to the results and it is a common responsibility for all parts of the company.

Our Annual and Sustainability Report
Our Annual and Sustainability Report summarizes how we worked with sustainability and circularity the previous year, focusing on concrete improvements and results. It outlines Duni Group’s view on being our customers’ leading sustainability partner and offering climate-smart solutions, focusing on improvements along the whole life cycle. The Group board of directors and top management continuously follow up on our sustainability work.
Our sustainability actions
In line with our new strategy and three sustainability initiatives, we have already set several actions in motion to make our products and operations even more sustainable and circular. Below you will find some good examples.

Sustainability – balancing today and tomorrow
“One major sustainability challenge is to balance how we live today and its impact upon coming generations. The thing is, there are intrinsic conflicts in the “triple bottom line” concept of people, planet, and economic gain. We need to address that. We should all be able to live rewarding lives, both socially and economically, without environmentally challenging future generations’ opportunities. At Duni Group, we have a fundamental belief that despite the challenges and possible setbacks, we can – and must – contribute to positive change and more resilient societies.”
Erik Lindroth, Sustainability Director

Collaborations drive innovation
To meet our bold sustainability targets for 2030, we must cooperate with like-minded stakeholders throughout the value chain. It boils down to finding the best sustainable solution for every customer, whether single-use or multi-use, relying on composting, recycling, or reuse. In 2021, we invested in two companies with multi-use solutions for take-away food: German Relevo and Spanish Bûmerang. We also built a partnership with Swedish &Repeat, which has developed systems that improve disposable packaging collection.

Now part of UN Global Compact
An essential step for Duni Group in 2021 was signing the UN Global Compact. With over 12,000 participating companies worldwide, it is the world’s largest initiative to bring together businesses around corporate sustainability. We are now one of these companies that commit to making human rights, labor law, the environment, and anti-corruption part of the company strategy, culture, and day-to-day operations.

Five prioritized UN SDGs
In 2021, we analyzed our operation deeper and how it connects to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a result, we have prioritized five SDGs that fit well into our three sustainability initiatives and provide opportunities to understand our sustainability work, externally and internally. The prioritized goals are:
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 13: Climate Action
SDG 15: Life on Land
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Improved EcoVadis Gold sustainability rating
EcoVadis is one of the world’s most trusted independent business sustainability rating. In 2021, it awarded Duni Group the prestigious Gold rating for the second year running. Going one better, we improved it further and strengthened our sustainability position among the top 5 percent of all companies in the paper and paperboard industry.

Nasdaq ESG transparency
Duni Group is recognized as a certified “Nasdaq ESG transparency partner” for our contribution to the Nasdaq’s ESG Data Portal. The certification signals engagement in market transparency and in raising environmental standards. The recognition is provided to companies that display transparent and objective data to its investors when it comes to Environmental, Social, and Governance issues.

Committed to the Science Based Target
Duni Group has a goal of being a net-zero emissions company by 2050 with defined progress by 2030. During 2022 we took an important step forward by committing to set Science Based Targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions even further. Joining the Science Based Target initiative allows the Group’s climate work to become even more transparent and reviewed by external experts.
